Ghostly Musical Glow

Saturday, July 11, 2009
What I used:

TSS Ghostly Story- smoky silver cocoa shimmer
TSS Musical Sass from the Capricorn Collection- deep cocoa raisin shimmer
TSS Celestial Glow from the Cancer Collection- smoky charcoal berry with a layer of iridescent gold and crystal
Fyrinnae lip lustre in Romantique- semi sheer soft warm pink with gold shimmer
Loreal Hip color truth cream liner in black
Physician's Formula Mineral Wear blush in Rosy Glow

Another easy look today, for work and then dinner with sister in law and her husband! I used Ghostly Story all over lid to browbone, then blended Musical Sass into my crease. Next I tightlight top lid with the cream liner and lined bottom and half of top lid. Lastly, I dabbed Celestial Glow over the black liner. Surprising, this became a subtle look using blues and purples. I love Celestial Glow, it looks insanely beautiful in person and perfect for smoky eyes. Romantique is my absolute favorite lustre from Fyrinnae. I have pretty dark lips (which I hate!) and this makes them look a pale pink with gold shimmer, which doesn't wash me out too much.

Alice in Wonderland

I'm really excited about the new Tim Burton version of "Alice in Wonderland". I think he made absolutely perfect choices for the cast and the styling looks wonderful. I love the makeup choices and am excited to see all the characters!

Anne Hathaway's dark brows and bold, deep red lips look ethereal with her pale skin and hair...*sigh* if only I was still blonde!

Mia Wasikowska's (aka Alice) simply sweet makeup is another perfect choice, along with soft, buttery curls.

And those heart shaped lips on Helena=AMAZING! I will certainly be rocking some soon! I can't wait for this movie to come out, even just for the stlying! What do you think? Anyone else like Tim Burton?

Dream Outfit: Zoo

I'm *in love* with this Lanvin bag! And aren't those bow shoes just darling? Not much sparkle in this outfit (just the Free People slip) but I still think it would be perfect for the zoo. Add some bright pink blush and teal glitter liner, and I would SO be ready to go! Now if only I could afford this stuff...

Stolen "Getting to know me" Post

Friday, July 10, 2009

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? - Cleveland, OH: the land of the dying city and lost dreams :o(

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING? - I just wanted to talk about beauty and pretty things with interesting and fun people. I spend a lot of time at school and work, which gets so monotonous sometimes. I could actually feel my creativity and flair fading away...

WHAT'S THE MAIN AIM OF YOUR BLOG? - To talk about sparkly, glittery things that peak my interest, plus fashion and other things that pop into my head

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE BEAUTY BLOG? - ahh, its gotta be the muse or temptalia, although its hard to find a non-MAC addicted beauty blog

DO YOU MAKE YOUTUBE VIDEOS? - nope

WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE YOUTUBER? - honestly, i rarely watch videos, I learn better by reading

HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN A MAKE UP SWAP? - I have! I was a member of MUA for a while, but after a few swaplifters and bitchy girls, I decided my money was better spent going to small companies! I rarely wore any of the makeup I swapped for anyways :P

MORE ABOUT SKIN/HAIR/MAKEUP/NAILS? - Ugh, skin is a huge issue for me. It was really bad in high school and now I'm just terrified to get cancer like my mom. My hair is pretty boring now, since I can't do anything fun with it for work! I generally stick with reds though...currently its a medium orange-y red. Makeup is my favorite thing for sure! Especially mineral and pigment eyeshadows. I'm all about the eyes. I don't do my nails very much, that is pretty much because I'm lazy and can't keep it up.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE BRAND? - The She Space and Fyrinnae

WHAT'S YOUR MAKEUP MUST HAVE? - Eyeliner! My eyes look super small without.

WHAT'S YOUR HAIR MUST HAVE? - Miracle 10 leave in conditioner. Without it, I couldn't comb my hair!

CURRENT BEAUTY OBSESSION? - oddly, neutrals. I wore bright colors for so long that I've started to really get into neutral colors with a twist.

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HOW YOU LOOK? - I gained a LOT of weight after I was diagnosed with an intestinal disorder. It was a painful process and I pretty much did it to myself with crash dieting. I'm learning to love myself as a "bigger" girl, but its hard. I just can't diet though, I go overboard and the doctor said that if I do it again, I may have to get part of my intestines taken out (not eating can cause the muscles in your stomach to stop working to the point where you cannot...ahem...poo, so be warned when you go on things like 300 cal a day diets for a long time!)

IF YOU'VE HAD ANY OF THESE IN THE LAST YEAR CHANGE THE FONT COLOUR-haircut,professional hair colour,facial,professional waxing,eyebrow threading,massage,manicure,pedicure,gel/acrylic nails,professional make-up application,botox injections,collagen injections,laser hair removal,laser skin rejuvenation

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MORE OF IN BEAUTY BLOGS? - More mineral makeup besides Bare Escentuals! And cheaper alternatives, no, I cannot afford Dior Quints.

HOW BIG IS YOUR BEAUTY COLLECTION? - umm...way too embarrassing to even say!

DO YOU OWN ANY MAC PRO PALETTES? - Nope, no desire to!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SENT FREE PRODUCTS AND IF SO, WHERE FROM? - Of course! Most small companies send freebies like Fyrinnae, Aromaleigh, etc

WHAT COMPANY WOULD YOU LOVE TO RECEIVE PRODUCTS FROM? - Maybe some more Bedhead...they haven't come out with new makeup in forever!

HAVE YOU EVER WON A BEAUTY CONTEST AND IF SO, WHO HOSTED IT? Well, in cos school I won a bunch of makeup artist contests and won $500 from JC Penneys for a bridal makeup contest. Not sure if that counts though, cause it was another persons face.

WHATS YOUR NEXT PLANNED BEAUTY PURCHASE? A decent sized Fyrinnae haul, with more lip stains. I barely have any lip products and have recently started wearing them! And the Easy Essential Pieces collection from TSS.

TWITTER USERNAME? don't have one!

I think Vogue is lying to me...

I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for trendwatching. I like to see whats new and if it would suit me or not. Most of the time I don't like wearing trends (I'm thinking of you, fringe!) but I can still see it looking cute on other people. I respect trends. They are there for a reason: to make people feel good about liking things others like.

So, imagine my surprise, while surfing Vogue/Style.com, that I see this....this....monstrosity? Apparently, tie-dye is a huge fall trend (one I will not be partaking in, mind you) and these $355 Stella McCartney jeans are "it".
I foresee a Walmart rip-off being created as i type...

Is it just me? What do you think of these?

Colourful Pristine Tiger

What I wore:

The She Space Prisine Nature-shimmering coral with a layer of twinkling violet
Fyrinnae Sumatran Tiger from the 2008 Endangered Collection (proceeds go to World Wildlife Fund!)- rosey peach with subtle pale green highlights

Fyrinnae Changing Inks eyeliner in Colourful Metaphor- light green that changes to vibrant lime to a silver tinged with pink (it seriously works...so cool!)

Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Lucky- brilliant deep copper

Too Faced Brightening Blush in Papa Don't Peach- soft peachy-bronze (awesome duotone color & cutest packaging!)
Max Factor Lipfinity 3d in Work out nude

My goal for the day was something simple, yet not neutral. My poor guinea pig is sick and I wanted something to perk me up!

Very short and simple look today! To start, I used Pristine Nature over the entire lid and browbone. Then, I used Sumatran Tiger in my crease. To bring out the green in Sumatran Tiger, I lined my upper lid in Colourful Metaphor. Lastly, I used Lucky to line my lower lid and a bit of my top to create a vee. Love how I'm paler in the pics with no flash!! And that huge hole where my monroe piercing goes? Sexy.

Cute Discovery: This Charming Girl

Any store that utilizes the word "whimsical" to describe themselves is all right by me! The UK based shop has been featured in Vogue, Elle and other fashion magazines, but still feels like a quirky untouched treasure. From the oddly delicate umbrella earrings to gorgeous lockets that look like your great great grandmother would have worn, there is definately something for everyone in this cute and sparkle-approved store!

Absolutely Wicked Mayhem

Thursday, July 9, 2009
What I used:

Urban Decay Mayhem from Book of Shadows pallette- deep blue based purple

The She Space Absolutely Fabulous from Hope Quest Quad 2- sheer rose taupe pearl

The She Space Mesh and Lace- ice blue with layers of baby blue, purple and turquoise twinkle

Fyrinnae Wicked- deep dark purple with turquoise shimmer

Loreal HIP color truth cream liner in black- black

Urban Decay Afterglow blush in Quickie- bright pink with shimmer

Fyrinnae Lustre in Lollipop pop- vibrant light pink with blue highlight

First I took used a small shadow brush to dab mayhem on the outer 1/3rd of my lid. Then I used Absolutly Fabulous in my crease and the rest of my lid (so lazy!). I wanted a blue highlight, so I used a kabuki eye brush to put Mesh and Lace on and blend my crease at the same time. I tightlined my upper lid, then added a slight cateye with the Hip liner. Then I used a small eyeliner brush to line over the gel liner with Wicked. Lastly, I reapplied Mayhem and put a smidge under my cateye. Please ignore the insanity that is my brows!
Polish on toes is China Glaze in For Audrey (my new favorite!). Tattoos done by 252, Pain and Pleasure and Body Revolution.

Tada!

Taylor Made Minerals Secret Sale!

Shh...There's a secret 25% off sale for TMM from July 8th-July 15th! The code is 108090809. I thought that there would be no better time for me to review TMM than right now, so here goes...

Taylor Made Minerals offers a pretty large variety of colors, with amazing customer service. I've only ordered through them one time, just to try out some samples. The pigmentation is really wonderful but the colors I purchased literally look NOTHING like the swatches on the website...which was a tad disappointing. I purchased the sample jars for $1.50, which strangely, are not actual jars (see pictures) and kind of difficult to use, but you get a nice amount of product in them.

To show the color weirdness, here are the website swatches of Ethereal, "medium silver with just a hint of rosy pink and heavy shimmer":

And what it actually looks like (first flash, second no flash):
To me, Ethereal is a bruise-looking medium taupe with a slight rosy undertone and little to no shimmer. The picture makes it look silvery-blue and I can tell you there is absolutely NO BLUE in this! It's still a pretty color, just be aware that the swatches are pretty inaccurate. I'm happy with the colors I got, and its a great company to try. The prices are pretty fair; I just like other companies better. BUT for you girls who like to try new things and don't mind getting random colors, TMM is a good choice!

Anna Sui for Target: Gossip Girl collection

Tuesday, July 7, 2009
Okay, confession time: I HAVE read some of the Gossip Girl books. This was probably close to 5 years ago though, so I can't really remember. Another confession: I HAVEN'T watched the show. So, technically I don't have any Gossip Girl-related feelings towards this collection. I do have a little bit of anti-Anna Sui feelings though, considering her line for Kohls was not up to my expectations. Plus, a little ridiculously priced (I mean, $100 for a scarf? at Kohls?!) and, ahem, not that cute or practical. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the first pictures of her new collection at Target....and then, horribly, horribly disappointed. Check out my top 3 picks...

And then, as I am casually browsing these pictures, it appears. Possibly the worst outfit I wore while trying to be badass in 6th grade...Now I'll be reminded of those dark days every time I see something in this...
What do you think? Is this as terrible as I think? I love the shoes though. The "shirt" is what gets me...reminds me of Lizzie McGuire's friend.

PS This will be out on September 19th!

TSS Essential Easy Pieces & Warm or Cool dilemma

The She Space just came out with 2 new kits, a warm and cool. They are designed to be the "staples" of your makeup; pretty neutrals that work on every skintone and 3 "accessory" colors. They are $35 for 8 full size shadows, and I have to say that I am pretty tempted. I'm waiting for my student loan to go through first (what's $35 out of $4000??) but I think I will be picking this up!
Even though I went to cosmetology school, and we seriously took 2 weeks learning about undertones and how to tell if you are warm or cool, I still can't figure out my coloring. The trick is supposed to be the veins on the inside of your wrist- if they are blue toned, you are cool; if they are green, you are warm. Well, I have blue veins (so that would be cool), but I'm a redhead with freckles, which makes me look warm. I personally like cooler colors better- taupes, icy blue toned purples, pinks with no orange. But sometimes I wonder if I should be warming warm colors- then I think, what the hell, I'll wear whatever I want :o)
The pic above is the cool kit, go to http://theshespace.com/newforjuly.html to see the warm kit or order!

Aromaleigh "Hot in the City" New Collection!

I'm really excited for this collection to come out! I'm lemming concrete jungle so bad, it looks very complex and a color that I shockingly don't have in my collection yet. I also really like window shopping, but I have enough shimmery champagne-esque colors. Lady liberty is also a really unique color, and looks exactly like the actual statue!

Women of the Otherworld series

Monday, July 6, 2009
Women of the Underworld is a series by Kelley Armstrong that was first published in 2004. Of course, I just started reading them and am loving it! Armstrong has a refreshing take on the paranormal romance genre, including different kinds of fantasy characters and not one of these women is a typical romance heroine. The series first two books, "Bitten" and "Stolen", along with book 6 "Broken" and soon to be released book 10 "Frostbitten, are narrarated by Elena Michaels, the world's only female werewolf. The novels mostly have a darker undertone, but are interspersed with banter that is funny and cute.

The main characters are so complex and completely different from eachother that one almost feels like you know them. The world Armstrong paints is amazing, even going as far as having Mafia-like leaders to the supernatural world, called the Cabals. The Cabals are run by sorcerers, who are by default male (of course). So far, I have read 8 of the 10 books and cannot wait for the new one to come out! Honestly, don't judge these books by the covers though. The covers are typical romance ones and even the titles don't do these novels justice!

MMU company reviews and notes...

The She Space/About Face cosmetics-

This is by far my favorite company! I own close to 100 different colors of eye piggies (and there are still sooo many I don't own yet!) Pigmentation & staying power is great. I usually use TFSI with any eyeshadow, so I don't have much problem with shadow creasing. The samples are $0.50 and you get A LOT of pigment in there, I actually put mine into 3 gram jars and they are almost full. When I hit bottom on a color, I usually buy a full size, which is a jam packed 3 gram jar for $4.50. Totally worth it! Sales happen about every month. Heather, the owner comes out with collections non-stop, including a monthly astrology collection and Hope No Matter What, which comes with 4 full size shadows & 2 FREE full size shadows to give to any one you want! This collection arose from the suicide of one of Heather's customers, which I'll talk about in another post. The shipping is usually a couple weeks, but very cheap! This is a very small company that is growing in popularity, and I can wait a week or two for products at a great price.
Aromaleigh-

Aromaleigh comes out with new collections monthly and weekly sales. The pigmentation is really good, except some problems with matte Rocks!. I absolutely love Aromaleigh for neutral colors and purples. I have a few bright colors and you really have to pack them on to get color. The samples are anywhere from $0.60-$1 and, in my opinion not worth it. It is barely enough for one application. The full size products are usually on sale, from $4-$7 and ARE worth it. The shipping is super fast and great customer service.

Fyrinnae-

My fyrinnae piggies are my most prized possession! They are NOT mineral, but fall into the color piggy category. A little on the expensive side, the pigmentation is to die for and a little goes a long way. They don't come out with new collections that often, but do come out with a few new colors here and there. The samples are $1.75 in a 3 gram jar that is really full. Full size are $5.25. I've never seen a sale here. They also have "inks" (beautiful liquid liners) that are also available in sample sizes. Oooh, and "lustres", which are kind of a lipstain/gloss/lipstick that are beautiful and last FOREVER! Shipping is 2 weeks-ish (mostly sooner) and customer service has always replied to me within hours.

Everyday Minerals-

This was the first MMU company I started buying from, thanks to my almost-sister-in-law. They are really fairly priced, but don't have the huge amount of piggies to choose from that other companies do. I wear their base in Cool Fair (its really hard to find a base light enough for me, but this is perfect). The samples are $2.50 in a fully packed 5 gram jar. Full size shadows are $6 in a very large (maybe 8 gram?) jar.

More to come...Meow, Pure luxe, Archetype, Dreamworld, Beautiful Girl Minerals, Audrey Nicole, J Lynne, Taylor Made, Paint FX
